For Health Care Professionals
Treating patients with tinnitus can be challenging. Out of frustration, patients sometimes
turn to questionable supplements with limited performance data. NRTC-103 is
nutritional supplement which replicates the Neurotec formulation, the subject of a recent
clinical study.
In the study, “Therapeutic effects of Rosa canina, Urtica dioica and Tanacetum vulgare
Herbal Combination in Treatment of Tinnitus Symptoms; A Double-blind Randomized
Clinical Trial” (Khosravi et al., 2023), the authors found that Neurotec reduced tinnitus
loudness, severity, daily life alteration, sleep disturbance, daily tinnitus perception and
mood disturbance after 3 months of daily use. The study was limited in that the follow up
window was short and the sample size of the study was small. In response, Neurotec was
written into the 2024 “VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines for Tinnitus” (see pages 77-
78). A 2025 publication “Pharmacotherapy options for the management of subjective
tinnitus: a systematic review and network meta- analysis” (Li et al. 2025) showed the
formulation performed in the top quadrant of tested interventions compared to a placebo
in reducing tinnitus severity and was the highest-performing non-prescription
intervention compared to a placebo in reducing annoyance.
Neurotec contains extracts of dog-rose (Rosa canina), common nettle (Urtica dioica),
and tansy (Tanacetum vulgare). In combination, their anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory
effects were shown to be neuroprotective in animal models.
